The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) recently co-hosted a panel discussion around the roles of NGOs. Mashudu Masutha interviewed me before the panel discussion and we explored the central role civil society organisations and NGOs play within governments. Civil society is facing an onslaught today, whether they are referred to as counter-revolutionaries, anti-majoritariots, neo-liberals or are deprived of funding they are under severe threat.
The Arab Spring and the civil unrest that dominates our global landscape is being led by citizens on the ground, but there was a time when the anger of the people was effectively channeled though organised civil society that consulted with the pople and negotiated on their behalf. Mashudu and my discussion follows below.
